Crazylegs 2016 - Day of race details

For those that didn't sign up for Crazylegs or didn't sign up in time to be on the Dorresteijn Dashers team, feel free to join us before or after the race.  I have encouraged everyone on the team to wear orange or red to help make the team easily recognizable.  If you don't have orange or red feel free to wear whatever.

For those that can make it before the race, we will be meeting at the same spot as last year which is along E. Mifflin near Wisconsin Ave, inside the square.  This link should give the location.

The race ends in Camp Randall Stadium.  We are going to meet in the upper half of Section F.  For those that want to hang around for a little bit after the race try to find us here.

Lastly, I will take this opportunity to ask if you haven't already done so, to consider donating to the Bram and Shari Dorresteijn Memorial Scholarship.  We are within $2500 of the initial goal of $25k.  Donations can be made using the below UW Foundation link.

Thanks and looking forward to seeing everyone at Crazylegs!

Crazylegs 2016

The annual Crazylegs run/walk is coming up on Saturday April 30th.  Just like last year we will have a team participating in the run/walk.  If you are interested in joining us at Crazylegs, feel free to join our team by going to the Crazylegs Classic signup page, clicking the "Join a Team" button, type "Dorresteijn Dashers" in the Search for a team box, and use the password bramandshari.  After entering the password you should be able to select if you are running or walking and pay your entry fee (please note all of this money goes to the Crazylegs race and the athletic department and not the scholarship).

Whether or not you choose to join us for Crazylegs, you can help support the cause by using the following link to make a donation to the Bram and Shari Dorresteijn Memorial Scholarship Award through the UW Foundation.  We are about $4500 away from reaching the initial goal of $25k at which point two scholarships will be given out each and every year.

First scholarship recipient

Though the fund hasn't quite reached the required $25k to perpetually give out the two designated scholarships annually, the UWF thought it might be nice to give out a single $500 scholarship this fall.  All parties involved in the scholarship thought this was a great idea.

We're extremely pleased to announce the recipient of the first Bram and Shari Dorresteijn Memorial Scholarship as Ms. Olivia Rauls.  Olivia graduated from Sauk Prairie High School with many academic and athletic achievements.  Her involvement in varsity sports gave her the opportunity to work with youth in the community through camps and practices.  She was also a member her school's chapter of the National Honor Society and Future Business Leaders of America, as well as a mentor to an English Language Learner (ELL) student.  We're thrilled that someone whose goals and values mirror those of Bram and Shari was chosen as the first of many beneficiaries to come.

Below is a brief blurb from Olivia's letter to the friends and family of Bram and Shari, shared with her permission.  Hopefully it helps remind you of where your time and money are going, and how through these rewards we can help strengthen the legacy of Bram and Shari for generations of future Badgers yet to come.

"This scholarship means a great deal to me. As an incoming freshman with financial need, the Bram and Shari Dorresteijn Memorial Scholarship puts some of my money worries at ease. Additionally, it inspires me to work hard and achieve my goals at UW-Madison. It is a huge honor to be chosen, and I have to thank you again for this generous scholarship."

The Old Fashioned

I recently found out that The Old Fashioned designates a charity that they donate to every month.  They have chosen the Bram and Shari Dorresteijn Memorial Scholarship as the charity they will donate to for the months of May and June.  There are two things that contribute to the donation.  One is at brunch on Saturday (9am-12pm) and Sunday (9am-1pm) they do a craft cocktail where $1 from each drink will be donated, as well as the person will be entered into a meat raffle.  The other is a “shake of the day” at the bar every day for people to play dice for $1 to win free stuff.  All of the "shake of the day" money goes to the charity.  So if you get a chance to stop in (maybe you are at the farmers market) or are looking for a place to have brunch in May or June, consider going to The Old Fashioned and having a craft cocktail or doing the "shake of the day" to help our cause.
